Dead to Me is a new Netflix original series. Dead to Me is based around a death of a father and a husband and how the wife, Jen Harding (played by Christina Applegate), of the dead husband is coping with his death. She goes through many twists and turns through out her grieving and coping period. She befriends a woman, Judy Hale (played by Linda Cardellini) at a support group. They hit it off and become each other’s confidants. They are each other’s support and become fast friends, even to the point of Jen letting Judy living in her guest house. Although, Judy has a deep secret and this secret begins to deepen and grow darker as the series goes on.
My favorite character in this series would have to be Jen or her son Charlie (played by Sam McCarthy). Jen is one of my favorites because although she makes some terrible decisions, she would protect her family above all else. She wants nothing more than her family to succeed, and be okay after the tragedy of losing the boys’ father and her husband. Jen is also very comical, even though the humor is very dark, is it super funny and suspenseful.
Charlie Harding is another of my favorite characters. Charlie is dealing with the loss of his father, and he is pretty much the definition of a brooding teen. He also questions his mom when she makes some not so great decisions. For example, Charlie starts to question why his mom is letting Judy live with them after only knowing her for a short time. Charlie also has a soft side to him, he does love his family. Even though, he may not show it all the time, he loves his family enough to try to do what is best for him and his family.
Overall, I loved this series and I cannot wait until season 2! I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys some dark humor and suspense. The whole show is totally binge worthy, I watched in two days because I could not stop. Each episode leaves with a little cliff hanger which makes you never want to stop. This series also deals with death, deception, and a little gore, so be prepared. I would not have been able to watch this series a couple years ago because my family was going through a lot of death, so for all those going through that you may just want to take a check and see if you are okay with this. This series is amazing and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!
